About Waangenga Blanco Waangenga Blanco is a celebrated Indigenous Australian performer of Meriam Mer and Amu descent. A former principal artist with Bangarra Dance Theatre, he is known for his extraordinary presence on stage and his work fusing classical, contemporary, and cultural movement forms. Waangenga has performed nationally and internationally across theatre, dance, and film, with highlights including Bennelong, Ochres, Mathinna, Patyegarang, Dark Emu Terrain, Dear Brother, 37 and Dear Son. Waangenga recently choreographed the inaugural work of the Byron Theatre Company, Displace I Call Home, and will star in their upcoming work Tirra Lirra by the River, co-produced by Fairbairn + Wild Productions. His work draws deeply from culture and place, and he is a passionate advocate for young artists, community collaboration, and cultural truth-telling through performance.
